Ózd is a town in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, Northern Hungary Region, Hungary. Ózd is the second largest city of the region.
History[]
The area has been inhabited since ancient times. The village Ózd was mentioned first in 1272. The modern settlements was created by merging the village of Ózd with the villages of Bolyok and Sajóvárkony in 1940. The settlement gained town status in 1949. During the Socialist era of Hungary, when the northern part of the country was developed into a centre of heavy industry. In 1978 five more villages: Center, Hodoscsépány, Susa, Szentsimon und Uraj were merged with the town of Ózd.
