In 1623, the Mayflower pilgrims re-negotiated their contract with their investors in England. The new contract now allowed for individual ownership of land. On this census, everyone is allowed 1 acre per family member.

Overview[]
Caleb Johnson, a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, provides the following notes on this record of land divisions:
In 1623, the Pilgrims divided up their land. The people mentioned in the Division of Land came on the Mayflower (1620), the Fortune (1621), and the Anne (1623). A couple may have arrived on the Swan (1622) or the Little James (1623), but these were small ships carrying mostly cargo. The Division of Land is recorded in Volume XII of the "Records of the Colony of New Plymouth", and reprinted in the "Mayflower Descendant", 1:227-230. Each family was given one acre per family member.
In general, this census is a pretty good list of adults that arrived in Plymouth Colony and were given a lot to begin building a house and farm. It includes many of the original 1620 Mayflower pilgrims who landed here, started building, but died during that first winter.
