Aaron Munson Baldwin was born 1 August 1784 in Bethlehem, Litchfield County, Connecticut to Eli Baldwin (1748-1794) and Dorothy Potter (1750-1824) and died 10 June 1846 Winchester, Litchfield County, Connecticut of unspecified causes. He married Julia Bishop (1791-1865) 26 February 1807 in Bethlehem, Litchfield County, Connecticut.

Biography

Shortly after their marriage, Aaron and Julia went to Canada and were trapped on the wrong side of the border when the War of 1812 broke out. His wife gave birth to their first three children there.

Aaron , was pressed into service by the British to fight against his own country. He with a wounded foot and a friend decided to risk an escape across the frozen St. Lawrence River . He left his family with friends. They successfully made the crossing. Eight months later, Aaron 's wife Julia, three men and two small children: Phebe Baldwin and Nathan Bennett Baldwin, rowed across the St Lawrence River to escape the British. They finally made it to the American shore after a difficult and harrowing trip.

They then lived in New York for a number of years where their subsequent children were born.

Aaron remained in Canada until Feb. 12, 1813, when he settled in the State of New York, but returned to Canada, where he died June 10, 1846. He widow, Julia Bishop Baldwin died there Dec. 18, 1865.
