Abbott is a surname of Scotland. A common misconception is that the surname is related to Edgar, Eadgar, O'daire, or MacDaire. It is not. Robert Fitzgerald De Athdare, Ireland was the first Abbott. He was from what is considered Limerick, Ireland today.
