Biography

Abel POTTER I (LWFX-WDS) was the only child of George POTTER (LWL3-9GV) George died about two years later, when Abel was just a toddler or even younger. Abel's mother remarried to Nicholas Nyle (Niles) and died when Abel was about age six or seven. Abel's step-father placed him with William Baulstone for 18 years---he was not bound or apprenticed. The Baulstones were innkeepers.

3 May 1667, Abel bought a right in the town of Dartmouth. He also owned land in Providence, Rhode Island. Abel was admitted as a freeman 1 May 1677. Abel married Rachel Warner (LC76-KRV), daughter of John and Priscilla Warner, on 16 Nov 1669. Abel's will was recorded 14 Jan 1692. So Abel died between 14 Jan and 9 Mar 1692 when his will was proven. Rachel was his executrix.
