He married Martha Jane Sykes (1867-1942) 14 June 1887 in Juniata County, Pennsylvania, United States.

He owned a 75-acre (30-ha) farm in Greenwood Township, near Juniata County. Later he became a hotel landlord and moved to Millersburg. At the 1920 census two closely-related families lived next door to one another.
