Alexander Burto "Ab" Andrus was born 14 February 1875 in St. George, Washington County, Utah, United States to James Andrus (1835-1914) and Manomas Lovina Gibson (1842-1940) and died 2 April 1949 St. George, Washington County, Utah, United States of unspecified causes. He married Catherine Heyborn Macfarlane (1875-1904) 25 September 1902 in St. George, Washington County, Utah. He married Rosilla Brooks (1883-1967) 4 September 1906 in St. George, Washington County, Utah.
AB is one of the second generation pioneers of Dixie in the Saint George area of Southern Utah. He was a man who knew and loved good horses. He owned a ranch in Diamond Valley and ran stock for many years. He was a mercantile owner and businessman in Saint George and he was a contributor to the municipal community and to his church.
AB married Catherine MacFarlane, the love of his youth; who died two weeks after their daughter, Caddie, was born in 1904. He married Rosilla Brooks and established a lovely home with characteristic gardens and orchards in St George.
AB responded to a call to serve a proselyting mission in Brooklyn, New York when his family was very young. His oldest son, Roman, was a teen and was asked to step up to adult responsibilities while his father served. He was a man of the Chinle Shale and loved the red and purple earth and the drama of sun sets and storms on the high plateaus.
