Alexander Kennedy, 1st of Girvan Mains was born circa 1478 in Scotland to John Kennedy, 2nd Lord Kennedy of Dunure (bef1454-c1508) and Elizabeth Gordon (c1445-1500) .
"Alexander, who got a charter of the lands of Girvan Mains from his father, dated 20th July 1481. Hugh Kennedy of Girvan Mains is witness to a precept by the Earl of Cassillis to James Scott of the lands of Ranko, dated 20th May 1536. He married Janet Stewart, Countess of Sutherland, who afterwards married Henry Stewart, Lord Methven.
