Alfred Fisk was born 8 January 1806 in Pomfret, Chautauqua County, New York, United States to Hezekiah Fisk (1775-1839) and Rhoda Walker (1777-1839) and died 29 June 1834 Zion's Camp (1834) of cholera. He married Mariah Sagers (1810-1835) 1831 in Chautauqua County, New York.
Zions Camp Participant
One of the most interesting episodes in the early history of LDS Church was the march of Zion's Camp (1834). The members of the Church in Missouri were being persecuted, and the Prophet Joseph made it a matter of prayer and received a revelation on February 24, 1834. The Lord instructed the Prophet to assemble at least one hundred young and middle-aged men and to go to the land of Zion, or Missouri. (See D&C 130:19–34.)
Zion’s Camp, a group of approximately one hundred and fifty men, gathered at Kirtland, Ohio, in the spring of 1834 and marched to Jackson County, Missouri. By the time they reached Missouri, the camp had increased to approximately two hundred men.
Alfred and his father, Hezekiah Fisk (1775-1839), were both participants in this major event. Alfred was one of several brethren who died when the cholera epidemic swept thru the camp members while camped along the Fishing River in Clay County, Missouri, 25-30 June. This must have been a hard thing for his father to witness the passing of his 28-year old son.
Marriage and Family
After Alfred died in 1834 and his wife in 1835, their first daughter, Amanda, was left an orphan at age 3.
