STRUCK BY CAR
RAGLAN WOMAN DIES IN HOSPITAL
TRAGEDY NEAR RAGLAN

Mrs. Alice Annie Long (48), of Raglan, died in the Bathurst District Hospital yesterday afternoon from injuries received when she was knocked down by a motor car on Saturday morning.

The accident occurred between 5.30 and 6 p.m. Mrs. Long had got out of a car on the Sydney road, near Raglan, and went to cross the road when she was struck by a car.

She walked round the back of the vehicle in which she had been riding, and the driver of the car, a Mr. Cook of Granville, apparently did not see her until it was too late to avoid striking her.

The woman was hurled to the roadway badly injured.

Bathurst District Ambulance rushed her to the District Hospital, where she was admitted suffering from a compound fracture of the left leg, abrasions and contusions to the hands and arms, probable concussion and severe shock.

Yesterday morning she appeared to rally slightly and remained for a while in a semi-conscious condition, but she sank gradually and died early in the afternoon.

Detective Sergeant A. M. Wells, and Constable Trevillian of the Bathurst police, conducted inquires.

The District Coroner (Mr. W. S. Bromhead) opened an inquest yesterday afternoon, but it was adjourned to Thursday at 10 a.m.

The late Mrs. Long was one of the most highly respected and widely known residents of Raglan, where she had resided practically all her life.

The news of her tragic death came as a great shock to the residents and the deepest sympathy will be extended to the sorrowing relatives. She was well known in sporting cirrles, especially amongst tennis player. She is survived by six sons: Messrs. John, Keith, Leslie, Raymond, Ernest and Arthur, and a mother, Mrs. W. Dein, of Bathurst: four sisters, Mesdames Burke (Agnes), Sloane (Gertrude) of Artarmon, W. Long (Theresa), J. Peers (Elsie), and one brother, Mr. W. Dein of Bathurst.

The funeral will leave Cam Reed's funeral parlor at 4 o'clock this afternoon for the Catholic cemetery, Bathurst.
