Hon. Maj. Ambrose London was born in 1618 in London, England and died before Nov 1706 in Somerset County, Colonial Maryland, North America. Just before 1641, he arrived in America and was the of the early settlers of Gravesend, Long Island, New York; there he made three purchases of land where he also had a house built; that same year he married Mary Cornish. In 1653 he petitioned for a pass to travel to Virginia and in Jun 1659 he was in Northampton County, Virginia with his wife. In 1661 he was back on Long Island and gave a note for the purchase of his house and plantation on the North River. In 1663/64 he was once again back in Northampton County, Virginia but this time he was in trouble with the local court for not cooperating with the church and being a nonconformist. He was fined 1,000 lbs of taacco "for Sabbathbreaking and his said insolent behavior." In 1665 he arrived with his family to the Annemessex, Somerset County, Maryland; there he became a prominent planter and proprietor. In 1683 he was elected Justice of the Peace and in Jan 1671 he may have been elected to the Lower House of the Maryland General Assembly.
