Anibal Theohari was born 20 August 1873 in Bucharest, Romania to Achile Theohari (c1821-1878) and Aristia NN and died 5 February 1933 Bucharest, Romania of unspecified causes. He married Olga Niculescu-Ianca (c1884-c1960) .
Biography
Anibal Theohari was a Romanian internist and balneologist. He laid the foundations of modern balneology in Romania and studied the therapeutic effects of the use of Romanian mineral waters, through clinical, biochemical and pathophysiological investigations. He was a renowned clinician and was concerned with the application of the principles of medical ethics . In his works he studied the structure and functioning of the digestive tract , in normal and pathological state, clinical pharmacology, renal physiology, pathophysiology of tearing, various diseases of the spinal cord.
Anibal Theohari attended high school in Bucharest at the Matei Balş High School, and medical studies in Paris, between 1891-1901. Here he obtained his doctorate in 1901, supporting the work entitled "Structure fine des cellules glandulaires à l'état pathologique". The work was particularly well received by critics, receiving the silver medal of the Faculty of Medicine in Paris.
For several years he practiced as a doctor in Paris, between 1893-1895 as an external doctor, and between 1895-1900 as an internal doctor. Returning to the country, Anibal Theohari is a professor of pathology at the Faculty of Medicine in Iași, between 1901-1906, and between 1906-1913, he returns to Bucharest, as a professor at the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest. Between 1913-1933 he was professor of experimental therapy and therapeutic clinic in Bucharest. After a short internship in biochemistry, in 1913, in Heidelberg, he received the position of director of the Institute of Balneology in Bucharest, a position where he remained between 1924-1933.
In 1922 he founded the Society of Medical Hydrology and Climatology, and later, in 1924, the Journal of Medical and Climatological Hydrology . During the Vth International Thalassotherapy Congress , held in 1928 in Bucharest and Constanța, he was the president of the event.
