Ann Whelan was born circa 1802 in Dublin, Ireland .
Ann Whelan was convcited in Dublin in 1819 for 7 years transportation at the age of 18. She was transported aboard the "Januas" to New South Wales arriving on 3 May 1820.
Sent to Parramatta, Ann met fellow convict Daniel Kelly, who had been sentenced to 7 years transportaion in 1818. On 6 November 1820 they sought permission to marry.
Despite being married, Ann is shown in the 1822 muster as living at the Female Factory at Parramatta.
In 1822 Ann's first daughter Bridget Margaret Kelly was born.
In 1826 Ann's second daughter catherine was born.
On 16 April 1826 Ann received her Certificate of Freedom.
Ann and her baby daughter Catherine are not found in the 1828 census with her husband Daniel Kelly and elder daughter Bridget Margaret. It is therefore likely that both Ann and her baby daughter Catherine were deceased before the census was taken.
