Annie Mills was born on 16 May 1913 at 11 Coburn Street, Belfast, Ireland, daughter of Rainey Mills, a dock labourer, and his wife Sarah, née McConnell. The family later moved to 45 St Kilda Street. Her mother died in 1934.
She married Jack Brown, an accountant, on 20 March 1940 at Ravenhill Presbyterian Church, Belfast. Their first son, John Logan "Ian" Brown, was born on 27 January 1941. Their second, Stephen Brown, was born on 13 September 1942. A third, Michael Brown, was born in 1944. Her father-in-law, William Brown, died in 1944. By this year the family was living at 108 Ardenlee Avenue, Belfast.
She and Jack had a daughter, Elizabeth Jill Brown, born on 5 September 1955. Her father died in 1958. By this year they were living at 442 Ravenhill Road, Belfast. Her mother-in-law, Margaret Brown, died in 1963.
Ian married Vivien Derbyshire, and they had two daughters and two sons. Stephen married Patricia Magill in 1967, and they had three sons. Michael married Margaret Easton, and they had a son and a daughter. Jill married Gordon Howell, and they had a daughter and two sons, but she died of breast cancer in 1998.
Annie died of a heart attack on 2 February 2004 at Belfast City Hospital. Her funeral was at Mountpottinger Methodist Church, and she was buried at Dundonald Cemetery four days later.
