Arthur Millikin was born 9 May 1817 in Saco, York County, Maine, United States to Edward Milliken (1766-1852) and Hannah Andrews (1772-1859) and died 23 April 1882 Colchester, McDonough County, Illinois, United States of unspecified causes. He married Lucy Smith (1821-1882) 4 June 1840 in Nauvoo, Hancock County, Illinois.
Biography
Arthur Millikin, Son of Edward Millikin and Hannah Andrews. Clerk, saddler and harness maker. He joined the LDS Church in 1836. He was the drummer boy in the Crooked River Battle and was shot through both legs above the knee.
He resided in Missouri before moving to Nauvoo, Illinois, where he attended the Nauvoo 4th Ward. On 4 June 1840 he married Lucy Smith (the youngest sister of Joseph Smith) at Nauvoo, Illinois with Joseph Smith officiating. He later supported Joseph Smith III as the legal successor of the Prophet Joseph Smith.
The Millikins spent much of their early married life caring for their aged mother, Lucy Mack Smith, and the latter expressed her appreciation for the tender care exhibited by this couple in her history.
Captain in the Nauvoo Legion. Worked in railroad and mining offices at Colchester, Illinois.
He also resided at Knoxville, Illinois before moving to Colchester. He died of "rheumatism of the brain".
