Biography
Asahel Huntington was born 23 July 1798 in Topsfield, Essex County, Massachusetts, United States to Asahel Huntington (1761-1813) and Alethea Lord (1767-1850) and died 5 September 1870 Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts, United States of unspecified causes. He married Caroline Louisa DeBlois (1805-1888) 15 August 1842 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States.

- Asahel Huntington, born July 23, 1798, in Topsfield, Mass.; fitted for college at Phillip's Academy, Andover, Mass., and entered Yale in 1815, where he graduated in 1819. After leaving college he commenced his legal studies, at Newburyport, and, after some interruptions, completed them at Salem, Essex county, Mass., in 1824. In March of that year, he was admitted to the bar, and commenced the practice of law at Salem, and continued in practice with marked success and high reputation, until 1851. During this time, he was repeatedly a member of the legislature of Massachusetts. In 1853, he was a member of the constitutional convention in that state; and the same year was mayor of Salem. He was attorney for the county of Essex; attorney for the district, consisting of the counties of Essex, and Middlesex, in the administration of criminal cases; and when the district was divided, held the same office for the district of Essex. In 1851, he was appointed clerk of all the courts in Essex county; when he retired from practice, and accepted the office, which he held until his death. He was for many years an active and efficient promoter of the temperance reform; in his official capacity, as well as in private life, he devoted his time, talents, and services to the cause; and as a legislator, and advocate, he was instrumental in advancing its interests and promoting its success.
- Mr. Huntington married, August 15, 1842, widow Tucker, of Salem, whose maiden name was Caroline Louisa Deblois. He died in Salem, Mass., after a brief illness, September 5, 1870.
