Aurel Athanasescu was born circa 1890 and died circa 1965 of unspecified causes.

Aurel Athanasescu was a Romanian theatre actor. In he joined the company recently created by Petre Liciu (1871-1912) who had succeded in attracting some of the most successful actors of the time: Maria Filotti (1883-1956), Tina Barbu (? - 1949), Constantin Tănase (1880-1945), Victor Antonescu.

He also played in some of the first Romanian silent films, amont which the most notable were: "Războiul Independenţei" - "The War of Independence" (1912) - in the role of Peneş Curcanul and "Păcală şi Tândală" (1925) in the role of Tândală.

In 1939 he joins the Maria Filotti's "Sărindar Theatre" which included the actors George Ciprian (1883-1968), Victor Antonescu, Jules Cazaban (1903-1963), Beate Fredanov (1913-1997), Clody Bertola (1913-2007), Mihai Popescu (1909-1953), Radu Beligan (1918), Marcel Anghelescu (1909-1977), Nineta Gusti (1913-2002) and Mania Antonova.

Besides his theatrical career, Aurel Athanasescu is also known for his recordings of radio broadcast plays, such as "The Cherry Orchard" by Anton Chekhov (1860-1904) - 1955 (in the role of Leonid Andreyevich Gaev) and "Pillars of Society" by Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906) - 1956 (in the role of Hilmar Tønnesen)
