The Battle of the Vikhra River took place on 29 April 1386, on the Vikhra River (old name - Vehra River) near Mstislavl in which the Lithuanian army defeated the army of the Prince of Smolensk Svyatoslav Ivanovich, who was trying to reconquer the Principality of Mstislav, which he had lost earlier .
The army of Smolensk besieged Vitebsk and Orsha , but could not take them. Svyatoslav Ivanovich devastated many the lands on the Lithuanian border ownership and besieged Mstislavl, which was defended by Karigaila Olgerdovich [1]. The Polish king Jogaila sent to the aid of his younger brother, a great army under the command of the Lithuanian princes Skirgaila, Lengvenis, Koribut and Vytautas[1] . The result of the battle was a complete defeat of the Smolensk troops and the death of Svyatoslav Ivanovich and prince Ivan [2]. Two of Svyatoslav's sons, Gleb Svyatoslavich and Yuri Svyatoslavich were seriously wounded and taken prisoners. The Principality of Smolensk was forced to accept being a vassal of Lithuania [2] . Yuri Svyatoslavich was installed Prince of Smolensk while Gleb Svyatoslavich was taken as a hostage in Lithuania.
