'BENJAMIN BROWNE, son of Joseph and Dorothy (Tuthill) Browne, married at Orient, L. I., Mary Tuthill, April 2, 1739. The date of her death has not been found but in 1770, he married second, or perhaps third, Abigail Benjamin, who survived him and died Dec. 28, 1784 in her 58th year. His will, made in Southold, April 22, 1774 was proven May 10, 1774, he dying April 29, 1774.
In his will he mentions his wife Abigail, leaving her his Great Bible, his gold buttons and the use of his riding chair. The Bible, buttons and chair for life only if she remains his widow. To his son Gershom Browne of Brookhaven he left the land there on which Gershom was living 'which is about ninety rods in width and three miles in length,' and a cow and a yoke of oxen. To his son Israel he left all his lands in Goshen, N. Y., and his acreage in Brookhaven on the west side of Isaac Smith's dwelling. To his son George, his property in Southold. To his four daughters, Mary, Jemima, Elizabeth and Bethiah he gave the remainder of his land in Brookhaven and his personal estate. His wife Abigail was the widow of Lt. Simeon Benjamin.' He was born circa 1720 at Oysterponds, Suffolk, New York. He was the son of Joseph Browne and Dorothy Tuthill. Benjamin Browne married Mary Tuthill, daughter of John Tuthill III and Elizabeth Browne, on 2 April 1739 at Oysterponds, Suffolk, New York.2 Benjamin Browne died on 29 April 1774 at Oysterponds, Suffolk, New York.
