Benjamin Hutchinson, Sr. was born 26 September 1666 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts to Joseph Hutchinson (1633-1716) and Bethia Prince (1635-1678) and died 20 March 1717 Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts of unspecified causes. He married Jane Phillips (1669-1711) 14 November 1689 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts.


Benjamin Hutchinson, third son and fifth child of Joseph Hutchinson (1633-1716) and Bethia Prince (1635-1678). He was a native of Danvers and died intestate in 1733.

He was a farmer, and lived on that part of the homestead which he received by deed of gift from his father, 02 Oct 1691. This land contained 30 acres, and he afterward acquired considerable land by purchase, contiguous to this, and he also owned a tract of 10 acres on the west side of Ipswich River, which he bought 06 Aug 1713 from his brother Robert. Before his death he settled a snug estate upon each of his remaining children, and disposed of the remainder of his property by sale.

While an infant he had been adopted by Deacoon Nathaniel Ingersoll, who had previously been bereaved of his only child.

He was married first to Jane Phillips (1669-1711), who died in 1711. She was daughter of Walter and Margaret Phillips.

He was received into the church on 07 May 1699, and his wife on 28 May 1699. She was the mother of his eleven children. The first, a son, died in infancy.

He was married second to Abigail Foster (1672-),
