Borunda is a Basque surname, which originated in Navarra, within the Burunda Valley (Valle de la Burunda). Its meaning is unknown, but it is believed to be derived from the Bolu- stem, which means mill in the Biscayan dialect. Although the surname is now most common in northern Mexico and the US Southwest, it has also spread throughout the world. There are small numbers of Borundas in the UK, Spain, France, Italy, and Greece.
