Burgenland District is a district in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. In neighbors clockwise the districts of Saale, Leipzig, Altenburger Land, the district free town of Gera, the districts of Greiz, Saale Holzland, Weimarer Land, Sömmerda and Kyffhäuser

History[]

The district was established by merging the former districts of Burgenland and Weißenfels as part of the reform of 2007. On 16 July 2007, the district parliament decided to change the name again to Burgenlandkreis coming into effect on 1 August 2007.[2]
