Caleb Hopkins, Sr. was born January 1650 in Eastham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts to Giles Hopkins (1607-1690) and Catherine Whelden (1617-1689) and died 22 May 1728 Truro, Barnstable County, Massachusetts of unspecified causes. He married Mary Williams (1652-1709) 1677 in Massachusetts.
Research Notes
This Caleb is often confused with another Caleb Hopkins (1622-bef1651) who was too old to father the children here:
Caleb Hopkins was born in January 1650/1 in Eastham, Plymouth Colony, the son of Giles and Catherine (Whelden) Hopkins.[1]
Caleb married twice. His first wife was Mary Williams, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Tart) Williams, born probably in Eastham and died probably before 1728. Their marriage date is not on record.[1] Mary was mentioned in the will of Thomas Williams of Eastham, made 10 May 1692, and a receipt in the settlement of his estate was executed by Mary Hopkins on 26 October 1696.[2]
Caleb Hopkins was one of the first seven proprietors of Pamet (later Truro) on 17 June 1690.[1]
He died probably not long before 22 May 1728 when administration of his estate was granted to his son Caleb. A settlement agreement, dated 5 June 1728, described Caleb as a yeoman late of Truro, and listed the heirs as eldest son Caleb, second son Nathaniel, third son Thomas, and Thankful Hopkins only daughter.[3][1]
