Carter Braxton was born 10 September 1736 in Newington, Fairfax County, Virginia, United States to George Braxton (1677-1748) and Mary Carter (1712-1736) and died 10 October 1797 Richmond, Virginia, United States of unspecified causes. He married Judith Robinson (1736-1757) 1755 in Virginia, United States. He married Elizabeth Corbin (1745-1814) 1760 in Virginia, United States.
Carter Braxton was a signer of the United States Declaration of Independence, as well as a merchant, planter, and Virginia politician. A grandson of Robert “King” Carter, one of the wealthiest and most powerful landowners and slaveholders in the Old Dominion, Carter Braxton was active in Virginia's legislature for more than 25 years, generally allied with Landon Carter, Benjamin Harrison, Edmund Pendleton and other conservative planters.
