The administrative county of East Sussex is divided into two tiers:
- five local government districts, forming the second tier of government in England;
- each district also has within it civil parishes, the third tier.
The administratively independent unitary authority of Brighton and Hove, although part of the ceremonial county of East Sussex, equates to a county in its own right
