This category includes the princes of Rügen who, from 1168 to 1325 were vassals of the King of Denmark. The Principality of Rügen thus belonged to the Kingdom of Denmark, as the regular participation of the princes at the Danish court evinces. After the transfer of the principality to the Duchy of Pomerania in the 14th century, the Griffin dukes, who are listed under the Category:Dukes of Pomerania, also bore the title "Prince of Rügen".
