Most of the volcanoes of United States are located along the West Coast, at the subduction of the Pacific and North American tectonic plates. During the 20th century there were only two eruptions in continental United States; Lassen in 1915, and Mount Saint Helens in 1980. Historic volcanic eruptions have occurred at volcanoes in Alaska, California, Hawaiʻi, Oregon and Washington. Yellowstone caldera which straddles the border of Wyoming, Idaho and Montana is one of the largest non-extinct volcanic complexes on earth.
