My mother's maiden name was Abernethy, a fine Scottish name with a clan heritage and a recognised Tartan. Her family came to Australia from Scotland in 1946, just after WW2. Her father was Charles Abernethy, who worked for Dunlop rubber in Australia, I believe he made golf balls. When he returned to Scotland, he started his own factory.
My mother and her 2 brothers, Charles and Alasdair, remained in Australia.
In 1968 my Mother and Father took me and my sister and 2 brothers back to Scotland to visit our grandparents. During our tour of Scotland we attended the gathering of the Abernethy clan, a traditional annual event attended by hundreds of Abernethy's.
