Chase County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of 2000, the population is 4,068. Its county seat is Imperial6.

In the Nebraska license plate system, Chase County is represented by the prefix 72 (it had the 72nd-most vehicles registered in the state when the license plate system was established in 1922).

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,325 km² (898 sq mi). 2,317 km² (894 sq mi) of it is land and 8 km² (3 sq mi) of it (0.35%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 4,068 people, 1,662 households, and 1,163 families residing in the county. The population density was 2/km² (4/sq mi). There were 1,927 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (2/sq mi). The racial makeup of the county was 97.81% White, 0.17% Black or African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.47% from other races, and 0.25% from two or more races. 3.42% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 1,662 households out of which 30.60% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.10% were married couples living together, 5.50% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.00% were non-families. 27.30% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.80% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.91.

In the county the population was spread out with 25.20% under the age of 18, 5.90% from 18 to 24, 23.90% from 25 to 44, 24.00% from 45 to 64, and 21.10% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 96.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.80 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $32,351, and the median income for a family was $39,225. Males had a median income of $27,554 versus $17,602 for females. The per capita income for the county was $17,490. About 7.90% of families and 9.60% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.50% of those under age 18 and 9.00% of those age 65 or over.
