File:Mi1180-Concorde.jpg

The Concord was a British-captained ship that sailed from Rotterdam on 6 July 1683 (calling at Gravesend and London) to Philadelphia, arriving on 6 October 1683 with thirteen families, mostly from Krefeld, who formed the main organised group of earliest migrants from Germany to the United States.

Settlement and commemoration[]

The immigrants settled in Germantown, which was founded on 24 October 1683. Their arrival is now the reason for a United States public holiday, and the Concord was the ship chosen to celebrate the tercentenary with the issue of stamps in Germany and the United States. There were no actual pictures of the Concord; the stamps carried an artist's impression based on descriptions.
