Cortemilia is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Cuneo in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 70 kilometres (43 mi) southeast of Turin and about 60 kilometres (37 mi) northeast of Cuneo. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,511 and an area of 24.7 square kilometres (9.5 sq mi).[1]
The municipality of Cortemilia contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) San Michele, San Pantaleo, Castella, Pieve, Bruceto, Doglio, San Giacomo, Santa Lucia, Sulite, and Salino. The comune is the capital of Pallapugno game, a typical Italian sport. The match between Cortemilia and Castino is called Derby of Altopiemontese.
Cortemilia borders the following municipalities: Bergolo, Bosia, Castino, Perletto, Pezzolo Valle Uzzone, Serole, and Torre Bormida.
