Biography
David Kennedy, 1st Earl of Cassilis was born circa 1463 in Dunure, Ayrshire, Scotland to John Kennedy, 2nd Lord Kennedy of Dunure (bef1454-c1508) and Elizabeth Montgomery (1441-1467) and died 9 September 1513 Branxton, Northumberland, England of unspecified causes. He married Agnes Borthwick (1465-1509) 1484 JL in Ayrshire, Scotland. He married Margaret Boyd (1468-1516) 1510 JL in Ayrshire, Scotland.
David Kennedy, 3rd Lord Kennedy and 1st Earl of Cassilis was a Scottish peer, the son of John Kennedy, 2nd Lord Kennedy. He was born about 1463, Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland.[1] He was a Privy Councillor of King James IV and was created Earl of Cassilis by him in 1502. Killed at the Battle of Flodden, 9 September 1513.[2]
Family
1st Marriage: Agnes Borthwick
David Kennedy married Agnes Borthwick, daughter of William Borthwick, 3rd Lord Borthwick.[3]
- Their son, Gilbert Kennedy, 2nd Earl of Cassilis (1485-1527) married Isabella Campbell daughter of Archibald Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll.[4]
- Their daughter Katherine married William Hamilton of Sorn and Sanquhar.[5]
2nd Marriage
After Agnes died David married Margaret Boyd, widow of Alexander Forbes and daughter of Sir Thomas Boyd, Earl of Arran and Mary Stewart, Countess of Arran, daughter of King James II of Scotland, but they had no children.[6] Margaret Boyd is sometimes confused with Marion Boyd, daughter of Thomas Boyd, 6th Earl of Arran who was born 69 years after David died.
