David Richards was a veteran of the War of 1812 with England. He served in the Ohio militia in Colonel Dudley's regiment and Captain robert Erwins Co. He was drafted in 1812 but was called into service on February 12, 1813 and mustered out August 12, 1813 at Fort Senecain Ohio. His length of service was 182 days. He fought in the battle of Ft. Meigs Ohio under the command of William Henry Harrison against the British under General Proctor and the Indians under Tecumseh.
