Dirk II van Holland, Count of Holland, Viscount of Ghent, was born 930 to Dirk I bis van Holland (c899-939) and Gerberga van Hamaland (c890-c940) and died 6 May 988 of unspecified causes. He married Hildegard of Flanders (935-990) .
Dirk was Count of Holland—or Frisia west of the Vlie as it was known then. His rule extended from the Meuse River to the Vlie, which roughly corresponds to Holland today. He also took Ghent (which explains the nickname of his son) but that was soon lost.
