Donald Joseph Smith, 65, husband of Katherine Anne (Langan) Smith, died Nov. 2, 2001, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Nov. 12, 1935, in Jersey City, N.J., the son of Ernest P. and Sarah (Bournes) Smith. Donald was a graduate of St. Peter’s College and attended New York University Graduate School. He served as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked as an executive in various positions in New York City and Michigan. He also started his own business in Maine, which he owned and operated for 17 years. He was active with youth sports leagues in New Jersey, as a coach and organizer. He was president of the Middletown South Boosters Club in Middletown, N.J., and served on the parish council for St. Catharine’s Church in Holmdel, N.J. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 42 years, Katherine; are three sons, Brian Donald and his wife, Tinamarie, of Ann Arbor, Mich., their two sons, Conor Theodore and Trey Donald; Gregory Ernest and his wife, Beth Ann, of Darnestown, Md., and their two daughters, Kayla Rose and Annie Grace; Jeffrey Andrew and his wife, Dorothy Ellen, of Kennebunk; one brother, Richard Edward of Salem, S.C.; one sister, Maureen Jean Connolly of Wall, N.J.; several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at St. Catharine’s Catholic Church, Holmdel, N.J. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N.J.
