Obituary
The death took palce [sic] at Glen Innes last week of Mr. Duncan M'Rae, formerly the owner of Furracabad and Tattiara Park. A Highlander of the Clan Macrae, deceased was a descendant of Alexander IX. of Drudarg. He arrived in Australia in 1855, and at once entered into pastoral pursuits. On one occasion he was on the Lower Darling mailcoach when it was bailed up by a bushranger between Menindie and Wentworth, and £800 in cheques was taken. Mr. M'Rae was the only passenger unmolested. The bushranger went with the mail to the next public-house, ordered dinner, and dined with Mr. M'Rae and the mailman. He insisted on Mr. M'Rae acting as his clerk and reading out the names and amounts of the cheques. To show his confidence in Mr. M'Rae, he handed over to him his revolver. Mr. M'Rae was compelled to shout for all hands, the bushranger then doing the same. The same man the next day or so stuck up Mr. Jas. Tyson. Mr. M'Rae, who was a prominent member of the Caledonian Society, was 76 years of age. He leaves a son and two daughters.
