Edna Kay Tyler Andrus was born 2 December 1918 in Richmond, Henrico County, Virginia, United States to Asa Atwood Tyler (1876-1937) and Mary Ellen Reed (1884-1931) and died 26 September 1995 Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, United States of unspecified causes. She married Calvert Brooks Andrus (1910-1992) 10 January 1942 in Los Angeles County, California.
An exemplary woman. She saw the world, following her husband Calvert from Utah to Thailand to Okinawa and Japan as he served in the U.S. Army. She was hungry for knowledge and was stimulating to everyone who knew her. She loved beauty and life and was interested in everyone's story.
When the family would visit somewhere, such as the National Gallery in Washington, she would happily find a bench to perch upon (since the walking was hard for her in later years) and by the end of the day she would have several new friends, happily engaging them in conversations about hers and their stories.
She was unquestionably generous, and would help out anyone in need. She loved all the 30's and 40's songs, Jeanette Macdonald and Nelson Eddy, Tyrone Power made her blush. She loved opera and Vladimir Horowitz, FDR and CBS "Sunday Morning". She raised four of her own children and helped raise countless "adopted" ones. She was a light in everyone's life and her memory still lives in everyone who knew her.
