Biography

Elijah Reuben Marks was born 1870 in Carcoar, New South Wales, Australia to Richard Marks (1844-1907) and Lydia Cramp (1845-1929) and died 30 November 1944 Bathurst District Hospital, Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Elizabeth Christie (1870-1948) 12 September 1900 in Wheeo, New South Wales, Australia.

Elijah only had one arm. He lost is arm at an early age. He injured it while slashing timber and did not have a doctor see to it. In the end it was amputated.

Elijah married Elizabeth Christie, daughter of William Christie and Janet Balgowan, on 12 September 1900 in Wheeo. Witnesses Charles Henry Alfred Marks and Louisa Christie. They married in her parents home. At the time he was a storekeeper in Grabben Gullen.

He was living at Bookham in 29 September 1941 accorting to the obituary of brother Charles.

Obituary

Mr. E. R. Marks

The death occurred at the Bathurst District Hospital on November 30, of Mr. Mr. Elijah Reuben Marks.
Deceased, who was 74 years of age, was born at "Markdale," Binda, and spent practically all his life in the Crookwell district. For the past four years he had resided with his daughter, Mrs. W. Bonnette, of Bookham.
Besides his widow, he is survived by two daughters, May (Mrs. W. Bonnette, Bookham) and Ethel (Mrs. W. Ford, of Locksley), one sister, Mrs. A. Marks (Sydney), and three brothers, Sidney (Dee Why), Arthur (Orange) and Percy (Crookwell). One brother, Charles, of Wattamondara, predeceased him.
The funeral, which proceeded to the Methodist portion of the Bathurst Cemetery, followed a service in the Wm. St. Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. N. W. Lickiss who also conducted the service at the graveside.
Floral tributes were also received from Loving Wife, May, Bill and Family, Ethel, Bill and Family, Loving Sister Annie, Percy and Linda, Alice and Chas., Arthur, Louie and Family, Carrie and Family, Louie, Vera, Ivy and Thelma, Os. and Ruby Walkom.
