She married James Alexander Guthrie (1823-1873) 24 July 1856 . She married Forster Fitzgerald Arbuthnot (1833-1901) 17 July 1879 .

  • The following notice recently apeared in one of the London papers: — "Mrs. Elinor Arbuthnot (daughter of the late Admiral Sir James Stirling, Governor of Western Australia), left estate valued at £106,049 gross." Elinor, the daughter of James and Ellen Stirling, was born in Perth on September 8, 1838, and baptised on November 18 of that year by the Rev J. B. Wittenoom, Colonial Chaplain. Captain James Stirling was the first Governor of Western Australia.
