Elizabeth Lettice Shurtleff Cooke Cole was born 1635 in Lincolnshire, England to Thomas Lettice (1603-1681) and Ann Savoy (1607-1687) and died 31 October 1693 Swansea, Bristol County, Massachusetts of unspecified causes. She married William Shurtleff (1624-1666) 18 October 1655 in Carver, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. She married Jacob Cooke (1618-1675) 18 November 1669 in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. She married Hugh Cole (bef1627-1699) 1 January 1689 in Swansea, Bristol County, Massachusetts.

Marriage and Family

1st Marriage: William Shurtleff

Married first to William Shurtleff (1624-1666) who died in a lightning strike at a church service in the Phillip's Home.

She and William had two sons, Capt William Shurtleff and Thomas Shurtleff by 1666 when she was pregnant with her third son, Abiel, who was born after his father's death by lightning in the home of John Philips of Marshfield in June 1666.

2nd Marriage: Jacob Cooke

Married second to Jacob Cooke (1618-1675), son of the Mayflower pilgrim. Jacob immigrated to Plymouth Colony in 1621.

They were married 18 Nov 1669 in Plymouth, and had a daughter, Sarah, who married Robert Bartlett.

3rd Marriage: Hugh Cole

Married third to Hugh Cole (bef1627-1699), who was a very intimate friend of indian warrior King Philip and sent him a warning at the outbreak of King Philip's War in 1675. (14 years before his marriage to Elizabeth.) Her grave is next to that of her 3rd husband at Tyler Point Cemetery in Barrington, Rhode Island.
