Elizabeth Means Appleton was born circa 1780 in New Hampshire to Robert Means (1742-1823) and Mary McGregor (1752-1838) and died 29 October 1844 Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts of unspecified causes. She married Jesse Appleton (1772-1819) 25 April 1800 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.
Elizabeth Means (1780-1844), daughter of Robert Means (1742-1823) and wife Mary McGregor (1752-1838), was married to Jesse Appleton (1772-1819), 2nd President of Bowdoin College and was the father of five children who survived through infancy, including Jane who would become First Lady to President Franklin Pierce, and Frances who would marry famed Bowdoin professor Alpheus Spring Packard, Sr. In 1837, Packard went on to edit The Works of Rev. Jesse Appleton, D.D., with a Memoir of His Life and Character. His wife's sister was Mary Means, married on November 6, 1799 to Jeremiah Mason.
