Elizabeth Mears Hawkins Mortensen was born 1 March 1867 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, United States to Thomas Sunderland Hawkins (1829-1903) and Elizabeth Ann Mears (1833-1901) and died 22 January 1911 Colonia Guadalupe, Galeana, Chihuahua, Mexico of unspecified causes. She married Jens Mortensen (1852-1932) 12 December 1884 in St. George, Washington County, Utah, United States.

Biography

Elizabeth Mears Hawkins was born in the United States and was part of a plural marriage. When Polygamy was persecuted in Utah, their family moved to the Mormon Colonies in Upper Mexico (circa 1888), after the birth of their first child Alice.

She was killed by Mexican Revolutionaries on the doorstep of her home at the start of the troubles with Pancho Villa. Her family fled to the United States shortly afterwards.
