Elizabeth Snyder was born on June 3, 1801 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey to Peter Snyder and Margaret Nace. In her youth, she came to Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. She married William Benjamin Evans in 1821 in Plymouth Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. William was a blacksmith. The family lived in Luzerne County until 1857, when the proceeded to go to Clearfield County, where they lived for the rest of their lives.
William and Elizabeth lived at Weedville, Pennsylvania until William died there on October 22, 1874. After the death of her husband, Elizabeth joined the Presbyterian Church. In her last hours her whole thought was religion. Elizabeth died on October 4, 1890 in Penfield, Pennsylvania. The funeral took place at the Methodist Church the following Monday and was very largely attended. By an unfortunate coincidence, all of the three ministers of the church were absent, and so Reverend M. Miller of DuBois conducted the services preaching a fine surmon from the text "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord." Thomas B. Buoy was funeral director, and the interment was made in Bundy Cemetery. According to her obituary, the funeral has a beautiful and appropriate floral display consisting of a floral sickle and a sheaf of wheat contributed by Mrs. T.B. Buoy and Julia Hilsher.
