Elisha Risley was born 22 December 1779 in East Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut to Jonathan Risley (1749-1813) and Phebe Damon (1753-1833) and died 13 September 1841 Brookfield, Madison County, New York of unspecified causes. He married Amelia Matson (1781-1868) 21 October 1800 in Brookfield, Madison County, New York.
Twin Boys
Elizur Risley (1779-1841) and Elisha Risley (1779-1853) are the twin sons of Jonathan Risley and Phoebe Deming Risley. They are often switched for the other in genealogical research of this family.
Marriage and Family
- Susan Amelia Risley (1807-1888) - she married to Welcome Chapman (1805-1893) - Early LDS Pioneer / Branch President of the church in Manti, Utah. Born in Readsboro, Vermont, a town co-founded by his grandfather Throope Chapman (1734-1794), was a stone cutter who worked on the Nauvoo Temple and the Salt Lake Temple, and helped broker peace between the settlers and Chief Wakara's tribe. Chapman had 3 wives and many children, many Utah resident's today trace their Chapman heritage to him. After arriving in 1848, his residence was rotated between Salt Lake City and Sanpete Valley.
