Elisha Risley was born 22 December 1779 in East Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut to Jonathan Risley (1749-1813) and Phebe Damon (1753-1833) and died 13 September 1841 Brookfield, Madison County, New York of unspecified causes. He married Amelia Matson (1781-1868) 21 October 1800 in Brookfield, Madison County, New York.

Twin Boys

Elizur Risley (1779-1841) and Elisha Risley (1779-1853) are the twin sons of Jonathan Risley and Phoebe Deming Risley. They are often switched for the other in genealogical research of this family.


Marriage and Family

  1. Susan Amelia Risley (1807-1888) - she married to Welcome Chapman (1805-1893) - Early LDS Pioneer / Branch President of the church in Manti, Utah. Born in Readsboro, Vermont, a town co-founded by his grandfather Throope Chapman (1734-1794), was a stone cutter who worked on the Nauvoo Temple and the Salt Lake Temple, and helped broker peace between the settlers and Chief Wakara's tribe. Chapman had 3 wives and many children, many Utah resident's today trace their Chapman heritage to him. After arriving in 1848, his residence was rotated between Salt Lake City and Sanpete Valley.
