Ephraim Carpenter was born 1640 in Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island to William Carpenter (1605-1685) and Elizabeth Arnold (1611-1685) and died 1703 Oyster Bay, Nassau County, New York of unspecified causes. He married Susannah Harris (1642-1677) 1662 .
Biography
Ephraim Carpenter, son of William, was born at Pawtuxet, RI about 1640. The first mention that we find relating to him is his being a witness to a deed from his father to William Vincent, 05 Feb 1661, and about this date he married Susannah, daughter of William and Susannah Harris.
On 08 Dec 1670, his father gave him "that house and farm at Rocky Hill where he (Ephraim) now liveth." In 1676, with many other he removed to Musketa Cove, Long Island, this because of King Philip's War. His first wife might have been a victim of this war, and on 03 Dec 1677, at Musketa Cove, he married again to Susannah England, daughter of William and Elizabeth England.
In 1681 he had a "home lott" set off to him, the record stating "that he was now an inhabitant amongst them and hath built upon said home lott." In April, 1682, he was chosen constable, and served until 1687.
On 02 May 1687, he purchased property at Fort Neck, on the south side of Long Island, and before 1693 he was again a widower, as on 01 July 1693, which his wife "Lydia" for L65 silver money he sold his home-lot at Musketa Cove to Derrick Albertson, with a reservation for "free egress and regress" to the burial place on said home lot. He made further land purchases at Fort Neck. and died before 1703.
