- Cyndi's List - in August 2005: see Talk:Cyndi's List
- RootsLink - in July 2007: "Free site anyone can edit - same software as Wikipedia. One page per family name, individual, place, document, or whatever you like, easily linkable to any other page. Connect ancestor's pages to others by category for surname, year of birth or death, location. Browse or search categories, create your own." - no sign of it a year later, so tried again, with slightly different wording: "Free site anyone can edit - same software as Wikipedia. 21,000+ articles. One article per family name, individual, place, document, or whatever, easily linkable to any other page. Group an ancestor's pages to others by categories: surname, birth and death years, location. Browse or search categories, create your own." - but got this response: "Sorry, the link http://genealogy.wikia.com has already been submitted." The "miscellaneous" group of a dozen or so was checked in Nov 2010: four links were dead, one was prohibited, one had no entries in its guestbook later than 1998, and most seemed to be hosted by RootsWeb or Ancestry.com.
- Referata, an SMW host site
- "1000memories", with the following on a guestbook: "Hi! The front page said someone is charting a family tree, but I can't see any mechanism for that here. Try familypedia.wikia.com, a free site where family trees can be displayed automatically once you have created pages for people."
Semantic MediaWiki website[]
In October 2010 the SMW site revised its home page and introduced a "wikiofthemonth" feature. Familypedia is apparently one of the largest semantic wikis and has a good enough operation to try to get featured.
An approach to the listed address about how to do it evoked this response from one of the experts:
Hi Robin,
Thanks a lot for your interest! I'm one of the people in charge of putting it together every month. What we need is a page comparable to this one, for Familypedia:
http://semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/AIFB_Web_Portal
It doesn't have to be as long, and doesn't have to contain the same wording, but it should explain both how the site works and how specifically it uses SMW, and should have some screenshots. You can either create the wiki page somewhere and send the link here, or just send us the text directly, along with some screenshots.

A "Familypedia" page on that site has been commenced. Screenshot experts here will be particularly welcome to help.
Thanks to User:rtol for adding a paragraph. How does someone with Windows Vista convert a screenshot to a .jpg? — Robin Patterson (Talk) 11:41, November 3, 2010 (UTC)
Eventually, with little or no extra help, we became wiki of the month for January 2011.
