Fent Allred was born 8 September 1846 in Kansas to James Tillmon Sanford Allred (1825-1905) and Elizabeth Bridget Manwaring (1821-1866) and died 8 September 1846 Mormon Battalion March of unspecified causes.
Biography
Baby Fent was born and died on Sept 8, 1846 to his parents who were both marching with The Mormon Battalion from Iowa to Santa Fe. At about this time both of his parents were assigned to the sick detachment that started traveling to Pueblo Colorado to rejoin the main body of LDS Saints headed to Utah. He is listed on their rosters, even though he did not survive more than a day.
The Mormon Battalion was at Ft Leavenworth, KS on Aug 23, 1846. This is when and where Col Allen died. Shortly afterwards the first sick detachment left the group (in Kansas) and began marching to Pueblo Co. The advance company of the Mormon Battalion did not arrive in Santa Fe, New Mexico until Oct 9, 1846. The timing of these events would most certainly put Fent Allred's birth and death somewhere in the heart of Kansas.
