I thought we had scotched the apostrophe problem. But we've not killed it. See:

The subject is mentioned at http://familypedia.wikia.com/wiki/Familypedia_talk%3APage_names#Apostrophe_problem.

Seems a follow-up is needed.

2013 - still a problem[]

In trying to create a tree or descendants subpage from the sensor page (i.e. the very easy way), there's still a problem. Address bar shows a version of the full page but the actual page created has its name cut off at the "&" that starts the apostrophe code.

One can create a satisfactory subpage the hard way, but if there's a solution I'd like to know about it. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 21:04, January 30, 2013 (UTC)

It should be fixed now. I have made the same edit to {{detect tabs}} that I did to {{showfacts formbuttons}} in May 2010‎: sorry I missed it. Please test. Thurstan (talk) 21:22, January 30, 2013 (UTC)

Brilliant, whatever you did. At least as far as creating the subpages goes. James_Richard_(Jim)_O'Neill_(1912-1980)/descendants. But I don't know why his wife's children aren't showing up. They're there on her pages, e.g. Robina Bell (1924-1992)/descendants. Another half dozen dummy saves needed, maybe, but he and she have already had more than normal.
Now they've had still more. He has {{Showfacts children}}, so what else is wrong? I'll move up to the next generation to see whether anyone else has problems.

Looks as if the apostrophe may be to blame. Robert Alfred (Bob) Bell (1884-1959) did all the expected proper things, with the descendants page showing only him at first sight but showing his daughters and Robina's daughters (who are still not shown on the abovementioned Jim O'Neill's descendants page) as soon as his page was republished. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 04:02, January 31, 2013 (UTC)

The "magic word" {{PAGENAME}} contains "encoding" for an apostrophe, and so doesn't match the values that are stored in properties. I have changed {{Showfacts children}} to remove the "encoding". Please test. I suspect there are other SMW templates which will need fixing. Thurstan (talk) 04:13, January 31, 2013 (UTC)
That works fine for descendants now: James Richard (Jim) O'Neill (1912-1980)/descendants. Thank you for first-class sleuthing. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 10:40, February 1, 2013 (UTC)
