It might just be me but it seems that this wikia is getting more and more complicated. I am no stranger to computers nor to website design but I find myself lost trying to keep up on what is going on on this site. I read through the recent changes page all the time and I just boggle at all the templates and other things I see there, but then maybe I am not suppose to understand it all. I can live with that. I have been on here for about 9 months and get confused. I am just worried that someone new will just be totally lost and not input their data. Anyone feel the same way? - Concretely, how has any of it impacted anything that you do? You are not required to use or understand any of the multitude of templates on Wikipedia, so why should it be any different here?
- As for a naive user, how are they aware of any of this complexity? How does it present any kind of barrier to them- it is invisible. Concretely, what they do see is what is present on the "Create a page". That is the complexity that must be addressed so that new users don't react in frustration as some have. ~ Phlox 06:11, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with Phlox and have just made some simplifications along the lines we have discussed. Genealogy is complex, but people coming here should be able to take what's here at their own pace and use what they can understand. As we cannot get into the minds of new users, feedback such as Will's is always useful. Another relevant forum is Forum:Help improve the help pages. Robin Patterson 02:04, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
