Forums: Index > Watercooler > Form when adding children
Hello. I really enjoy the person forms we use; however I had a question. I know when you add a parent when on a form it auto feeds the spouse and the child (from which the link was used to start the parent), this is really great and a time saver. My question is, is there any way for the reverse to be true? When click on a child that does not have a page, would it be possible for that new page to auto feed the parents? I have no idea if this is possible or how hard it would be. Just would save a lot of time over time and not have to keep the parents page open to cut and paste the parents to the new page. Thanks for listening! --William Allen Shade (talk) 20:39, November 17, 2013 (UTC)
- I imagine that it could be programmed, though not by me. But would it be worth a lot of programming time just for a few seconds of keeping another window open? -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 23:52, November 17, 2013 (UTC)
- Was just wondering. Those few seconds add up over time. :) --William Allen Shade (talk) 04:18, November 18, 2013 (UTC)
- Now that we see fewer horrid green buttons, I would like our experts to give it more thought. So would Will if he were still with us. When we click on a parent or spouse link in the infobox preview we get some fields filled in; a similar procedure should be able to do the same for a child. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 22:17, April 27, 2018 (UTC)
- I have just been reminded that this was last mentioned on Forum:Templates update. Response was:
- I wonder why the number of children would affect it. We are talking about clicking a single child link and getting the resulting form to fill in the person's first name, (deduced) surname, and (the two people listed at the head of the children table) parents - just four fields, not the siblings. -- Robin Patterson (Talk) 01:25, April 28, 2018 (UTC)
